I just came from celebrating my friend’s grandmother’s 99th birthday!
Surrounded by a community of 30 plus family and friends and she was getting around just fine.
Grandma even recited, with enthusiasm, a lengthy poem after she blew out her birthday candles! Impressive.
I asked my friend about her grandmother’s quality of life secrets.
Grandma’s Secrets to Living Fabulously Well.
I’m not making this up……she’s been practicing yoga since at least the early 70’s. They would watch the yoga lady on PBS and practice for an hour every day. She was doing everything from deep backbends to headstands.
Way before they became popular, her grandmother would also do elimination diets. She wouldn’t talk about it, she would just take out certain things from her diet. No meat for 30 days. Or the cabbage diet. Whatever seemed natural and healthy, she would give it a go!
This next secret, is really important, especially for imploders like myself. My friend said her grandmother was not afraid to express her anger, frustration or sadness. The key is she would express herself and then immediately let it go. She never held onto to drama. She never swept anything under the rug. This is major, right? How much dis-ease develops from holding onto emotional poison?
Lastly, my friend said her grandmother really didn’t give much advice. Her main advice was to PLAY. As adults we have to remember to schedule PLAY time!
