Traditional Chinese Medicine teaches us, the most vulnerable organs in the Fall Season are the lungs and large intestine.
The lungs job is to regulate and control the breath through inhalation and exhalation. When the lungs are susceptible to cold, heat, dryness, dampness and wind they go out of balance.
Practice deep breathing to keep your lungs healthy.
It’s exciting to watch clients learn to breathe from their lower bellies. Chest breathing has become the new normal.
Unfortunately chest breathing makes us anxious and shaves years off of our lives.

Breath of Fire Generates Warmth and Energy
When you need to get your body going and juices flowing in the cool Fall/ Winter mornings, practice Breath of Fire.
Directions
1. Sit in a comfortable seat, place hands on knees, palms down.
2. Lengthen your spine, close your eyes.
3. Relax your stomach muscles.
4. Now begin to breathe rapidly through the nose with equal emphasis on the inhalation and exhalation. It’s like a dog panting but mouth is closed. Continue at a comfortable pace and establish a steady rhythm. Keep chest relaxed. Focus on the exhales, inhales will come automatically. Start with one minute, build from there.
Sitali Breath for Calm and Cool
In April 2010 my dad had a massive hemorrhagic stroke and miraculously survived! During the early months of my dad’s healing process most moments were of extreme gratitude.
If I’m going to be honest, there were also moments of sheer frustration. I’d want to numb my mind and chug a bottle of pinot noir. But knowing how the body actually manages stress, instead I’d take a deep breath and practiced Sitali Breathing.
Directions
1. Sit in a comfortable seat, place your hands on your knees, palms down and close your eyes.
2. Stretch your tongue out of your mouth, curl up the sides of your tongue, making a straw.
3. Breathe in through your “straw” from your gut (not from your chest), feel the cool air traveling throughout your body.
4. Draw your tongue into your mouth.
5. Exhale through your nose completely. Repeat 5 times.
Whatever your body needs, you can begin to restore wellness using deep breathing.
