Do you ever feel like you have to explain yourself? Especially when it comes to your wellness. Why you eat certain things. Why you’re vegetarian and not vegan? Why you do Yoga instead of Zumba? Why you sleep 6 hours instead of 8hours? Here’s a little lesson in how calmly NOT to explain yourself from my dad.
On a recent trip to visit my parents, dad was sleeping a ton. I was concerned but didn’t mention it during my stay.
It was clearly on my mind. At the end of my trip on the car ride back to the airport I said, “Dad, you slept a lot while I was home…(no answer)….it seems you needed to rest.”
About 15 seconds went by and I assumed dad was ignoring my question. Probably none of my beeswax.
Then dad says calmly and matter of factly, “Evidently I did.” And that was all he said.
Ha! Yes, of course.
Often we feel the need to explain ourselves, even when people don’t ask. If they do ask, we take it so personally.
Guilty, I’m often curious as how people operate and have these conversations throughout the week.
What dad said just reminds us…
Keep… It…. Simple.
We need to listen to our bodies, listen well and go from there. Once we think we’ve figured “it” out, something is sure to change. Tis life!
Can I get an amen or a namaste?
Cheers to keeping things clean and simple.
