How to Counter Summer Vacation Overwhelm

When you live in a big city like Los Angeles, it is so important to get out of dodge sometimes. This summer my entire immediate family decided to go back to my childhood home in Cleveland.

There were fourteen people total, including significant others, grandparents, siblings and the kiddos.

Naturally, for some people this would be a crazy overwhelming time. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous how we were all going to be in the same house together for weeks!

There was an eclectic mix personalities, different eating habits, several languages, various cultures and a spectrum of ages.  Dynamic to say the least.

In Los Angeles, I only live with my significant other so this experience was fun as well as chaotic.

I can’t say I stayed true to my spiritual practices and good eating habits the entire time!

In Los Angeles I usually meditate twice a day. On this trip I made sure to meditate once a day, a bonus if I got it in twice!  This bench in our backyard was enticing.  I called it my Meditation Bench.

Some mornings I woke up early.  I practiced yoga with a view of the backyard.  It was simply gorgeous.  The fresh air and the thunderstorms in Cleveland were a welcomed change from the drought in Los Angeles.  Looking up towards the sky in Savasana was a great view as well!

In between all of the treats that are so popular in Cleveland, like Great Lakes Beer and picnic food, I made my special water concoction. Water, fresh mint from mom’s garden, fresh squeezed lemons and ginger. My digestive system needed all the help it could get!

Taking care of myself aloud me to enjoy my family and the festivities. We created some special moments together.  With life becoming more global, many of us have our own version of OUR MODERN FAMILY.  here is mine. And I love everyone one of them.
