Is your skin dry, like cracked mud? Are you bones cracking and popping like fireworks?
Winter winds and cooler temps can make our skin feel thirsty and bones tend to crack more than usual.
Here are three easy techniques you can implement immediately to improve your skin and bone health:
- Body warm ups– roll your head, shoulders, wrists, hips and ankles 8-10 times each direction. You may hear cracking and popping. You are just moving through blocked energy. These simple AND effective movements lubricate your joints from the inside out. It releases its own natural lubricant called synovial fluid. Rolling your joints is a great habit to practice daily (foot in my mouth on that one).
2. Ayurvedic Self Massage– Also referred to as Abhyanga oil massage. It is recommended to use sesame oil in the winter, its warming. Coconut oil is usually used in the summer because it has a cooling effect. All oils should be plain, not roasted or toasted. Use circular motions to massage your joints and long strokes on the long bones, your arms and legs. A 15 minute massage is great. Take a warm shower or bath after applying the oil. Just use soap on your “special areas.” Don’t worry you won’t feel greasy, the oil will feel like lotion throughout the day.
***Warm oil massage is a tradition that is said to nourish the skin. It penetrates through deep layers of tissue.
3. Specific Yoga Poses– Did you know that your skin is the largest organ in your body? In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Lungs and the Large Intestine are closely related to your skin. Make sure to include yoga poses like Updog and Cobra for your lungs, its helps your skin too!
After implementing these techniques, I hope you feel moisturized inside and out.
Just remember motion is lotion.
