Happy Tuesday! One of my student’s asked me Sunday morning, just before class started, “Why are you in such a bright and chipper mood?”
I chuckled and told her I had a day of REST this past Saturday. I was the first one to bed Saturday night. Since 3 people in my household are 77 years of age and over, that is saying a lot!
Towards the end of the day on Friday, I felt TIRED. I had a wonderful yet full week of teaching. I’ve also been hanging out with my parents and settling them into LA. Friday evening we had a fantastic Chinese New Year celebration.
What a coincidence, Saturday morning a message on my phone said low batteries10%. Even a message on my computer read, low batteries -Condition: Replace Soon. Oh yes, my car actually was in the shop as well. Look at that, my phone, computer, car and myself all needed to be recharged.
I made previous plans to take my parents around LA on Saturday. However I needed to rest! I said out load, I am taking a day of rest! My dad wasn’t so thrilled but he got over it.
I slept in. I moved at a leisurely pace throughout the day. I did a little laundry. I watched a few feel good movies. I made homemade soup with my mom. Caught up on paperwork. Organized a bit.
Around 3p I thought, ok let me take my folks somewhere. My BODY decided otherwise. Thank goodness I listened. I lit a fancy soy candle, put on a meditation cd and took a mineral bath.
Guess what? Everyone in my household was fine (mom, dad, boyfriend, and boyfriend’s mom).
If a ME DAY for you sounds impossible in this moment, maybe you start off with a ME morning. Then work your way to a half day. All the while KNOWING you deserve as much ME time as you desire. Perhaps weeks!
I encourage you to envision what your ME time looks like, sounds like, smells like, and feels like.
I know after just taking a day for myself I felt restored and regenerated. Inevitably when I take a me day, I am able able to show up and be present for those around me.
We all know intellectually we are worthy of taking time to go within, to create, daydream and of course practice yoga. Sometimes we just need a reminder. This reminder may come from the technology we use, our body, and/or our car. I was lucky enough to have all three give me the message 🙂
I wish you a simple Sunday evening,
Cindi E. Lee
