Saturday Mornings in Malibu

I love carving out time to go to the ocean, particularly Malibu. The ocean feels like home. Malibu offers quiet tucked away hikes and beaches. Most yoga teachers absorb an incredible amount of inspiration from nature.

Early one Saturday morning I  went on a moderate 2.5 mile hike called Corral Canyon in Malibu.

Corral Canyon has the perfect area for your mini standing yoga class.

Visiting the ocean puts everything in perspective and keeps me in the present moment.

The ocean insists we to go with the flow.  Have you ever been caught in a big wave?  It is clear you cannot fight the force.  You must roll with the waves.  Such a lesson in life as well.

One of my teachers often mentions, we should move our feet like we are walking on water. For those of us who live in big cities, and pound the pavement with our feet and cars, soak that in.

The views automatically remind me to take deep vast belly breaths.

After our hike, my friend and I were hungry.  On the way home we stopped at a quaint cafe on Topanga Canyon, Topanga Fresh Organics.  Visitors will love healthy yogi dishes including salads, smoothies and other brunch goodies.

I devoured a yummy kale salad with pita bread.  It hit the spot after our hike and mini yoga class.

The next time you need to get away from the city and regroup, get up early on a Saturday morning and head to the ocean.  Take a hike, literally. Along your hike, find an area to practice yoga with an ocean view.  Sweat, get grounded and reconnect with your slow deep breathing.

Yoga Tips

The more years I am on this earth, the more I crave to be outside in nature.  Sometimes I too get lazy about my yoga practice and feel bummed out about life.  Once I visit the ocean (or any body of water), I go back to my natural state of being.  I feel like moving my body.  My practice quickly finds me and I feel connected yo myself and I am grateful.
