It’s time to give yourself a well deserved break. During the Holiday season we are dealing with parties, buying plane tickets, purchasing gifts, receiving out of town guests, and experiencing longer lines in the stores. There is one thing that lets up in LA in December, traffic, thank goodness.
Don’t let the holidays take your sanity. Have fun and connect with your loved ones. In between celebrations, remember to relax and let go. Exhale. It’s all about the balance. There goes that balance word again. Yes, the word is overused and to some it may seem impractical. I encourage you to view the balance in your life in comparison to your yoga practice.
For example, there is the rubber band yogi that is so flexible it’s difficult to move his or her internal energy. There is also the yogi who is incredibly strong, yet too stiff to truly open up the body. When we find the balance, it’s golden. This is how the transformation in the mind/body/spirit takes place, breath by breath.
We all have to find what works for our own unique system. As my meditation teacher say’s, the body has it’s own requirements. Find out what works best for you. I recommend a daily check in. Depending on life, your needs change. Self care is our own responsibility.
Side – Lying Relaxation Pose is a great place to start your self care ritual. This pose is relaxing, nurturing, and perfect for the Holiday season.
It’s easy, let’s get started.
1. Lie down on one side of your body. If you are pregnant lie on the left side.
2. Bend your legs at approximately 90 degree angle, find a position that is comfortable.
3. You can remain in Side – Lying Relaxation Pose for up to 20 minutes.
4. You may feel like going to sleep. Take a few deep breaths before you start the practice. This will help you relax without falling asleep.
5. When you are finished, keeping your eyes closed, slowly get up using you hands and arms for support. Slowly open your eyes.
